11 steps towards a healthy new YOU…

Healthy steps to reinvent you. Go reinvent yourself. Start living healthy today.

Banish the Puffs: Each cigarette costs you 14 minutes of your life. It also increases your risk of cancer of the lungs, throat, mouth, oesophagus, pancreas, bladder and cervix. Smoking also leads to various heart diseases.

Stop drinking: Excessive liquor intake depresses specific functions of brain, which can lead to loss of memory. Apart from the risk of Heart and liver diseases, it can cause blurred vision and slows down your reaction time.

Look good: Reduce those extra wrinkles and sunburns from your face. Wear a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher and wear dark sunglasses to prevent squinting when you are out in the sun.

Exercise more: Being overweight increases your risk to several diseases. Regular exercise can help lower your risk of stroke, high BP, diabetes and osteoporosis. It enhances your mood, increases your energy levels, bone strength and density, lowers your cholesterol and makes you feel less stressed.

Distribute load: Carrying heavy shoulder bags can lead to painful shoulders. If you have to carry heavy bags, distribute the weight equally between your left and right side by dividing it into two bags.

Eat less sugar: You don’t need to follow a sugar free diet, but try to reduce the amount of sugar you consume.

Eyes right: Reading in bad light or working in front of computers for long periods can cause eyestrain. Take brief breaks every hour and focus on distant objects for a few seconds to alter your depth of vision.

No nail biting: It is a habit that causes short and ragged nails. This can cause skin infection as well as bleeding around the edges. Try getting to the reasons why you started biting your nails.

Be happy: Women and girls experience depression at twice the rate of men. This destroys self-esteem and confidence. Depression tends to feed on itself, so being moderately depressed and inactive may lead to a severe form of depression.

Eat seasonal fruits: Fruits and vegetables are low in fat and rich in essential vitamins and minerals, fibers (to reduce the risk of blood clots), potassium (to control blood pressure), carbohydrates and phytochemicals.

Healthy food: Eating fatty foods especially saturated fats which are found in animal products such as red meat, cheese and dairy products, can push up your cholesterol levels, increasing the risk of heart diseases. Avoid foods high in fat such as potato chips and fries, use very little butter, oil, ghee and cheese. Remove visible fat from meat. Steam or grill your food instead of frying it.
